Abandoned Vehicles
Identification

Upon notification of a potentially abandoned vehicle, Worcester Parking Control Officers visit all reported locations to determine validity of report. This includes both public and private streets and any City-owned property.

When a vehicle is "deemed to be abandoned" it will be green-tagged and scheduled for removal.
Real Estate Valuation Determination
Each year, the City Assessor determines the full and fair cash valuation of all real property and personal property estates for the purpose of taxation, M.G.L. Chapter 59, Sections 2A and 18. The Commissioner of Revenue triennially certifies whether the City Assessor is assessing property at full and fair cash valuation, M.G.L. Chapter 40, Section 56.

Can I conduct open burning on my property?
No. Open burning prohibitions are authorized by the Massachusetts Air Pollution Control Regulation. 310 CMR 7.07(3)(e) prohibits open burning completely in 22 urbanized municipalities, which includes the City of Worcester.
I'm selling my property. What inspection do I need before closing?
State law requires that residential buildings be equipped with approved smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. To schedule an appointment and to ensure that the life safety devices are properly located, please contact the Fire Prevention Division at 508-799-1822 or send an email to: prevention@worcesterma.gov. Also, please note that State Law requires that every building have its address number affixed to the building and is visible from the roadway.
How do I get a copy of a fire report?
If there is a fire on a property, you may request a Tenant's List directly from Fire Prevention, however, all Incident Reports can be filed through a Public Records Request online.
Clerk of the City Council
The City Clerk is elected by the City Council and is the keeper of the City records entrusted to his/her care. The Clerk, when requested, attests to the validity of City records. These include records of birth, marriage, death, residency, ordinances, City Council actions, voter and business registration and many others.
Animal Control
The Animal Control section is responsible for enforcing local ordinances, state statutes and regulations related to: unlicensed dogs; leash law violations; unvaccinated animals; animal bite quarantine; and all animal complaints from citizens as well as formal complaints received through the Office of the Chief of Police.
Housing Development Incentive Program
The Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP) was established in accordance with 760 CMR 66.00 and M.G.L. Chapter 40V. The mission of the program is to increase residential growth, expand diversity of the housing stock, support economic development and promote neighborhood stabilization. The City of Worcester adopted the program in 2014.
