Project History

Over the past decade, cities throughout the Commonwealth have adopted streetscape and design standards to promote continuity and accessibility in their downtown neighborhoods. In an effort to raise the standards of architectural quality and promote positive user experiences among residents, workers, and visitors, the Executive Office of Economic Development has created two documents: City of Worcester Urban Design Guidelines and a City of Worcester Streetscape Policy.

When you need to file a police report you may do so from your residence, the place of the incident or Police Headquarters. The City of Worcester frequently has a high volume of calls with various levels of severity that need to be handled by the Patrol Division. Because of this and other extenuating circumstances, you must be prepared for a response time that may be greater than you expect.

The CitySquare project area is located on the site of the former Worcester Galleria. Prior to the construction of the Galleria, this area of Downtown was composed of walkable city-blocks with active street level retail and small businesses. The vast majority of the businesses at the time were locally owned and operated and the buildings were "human scale" with lower heights and smaller widths with multiple buildings fronting each street block.

Conservation Commission

Conservation Commission responsibilities include administering wetlands protection regulations and making recommendations on the planning, acquisition and management of property for conservation and passive recreation.

The City of Worcester is firmly committed to the development and support of commerce and industry. The Site Search Assistance Program, administered by the Division of Business & Community Development, is designed to identify available land and building space in coordination with local real estate professionals and property owners. The program coordinates development efforts with the knowledge and resources of the commercial real estate community to meet the real estate needs of companies, small businesses and developers, helping them locate, stay and grow within the City.

MWBE Construction Advancement Grant

This program aims to support Certified Minority and Women-Owned Worcester-based businesses in construction or construction related sectors with operational expenses related to their business to provide greater capacity for contracting opportunities. This program is funded by settlement funds received through the Attorney General’s False Claims Division.

On June 3, 2016 Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed An Act to Improve Public Records into law. Many of the provisions in the law take effect on January 1, 2017.

The Worcester Consumer Rights Program (WCRP) is a local consumer program (LCP) that offers mediation service in cooperation with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office (AGO). The service is available to consumers in Worcester and surrounding towns. The purpose of the Worcester Consumer Rights Program is to provide amicable mediation to consumers who are involved in a dispute or have a complaint against a business that is licensed to operate in Massachusetts.
