Election Officers (Early Voting)

City of Worcester

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified individuals to serve as temporary Election Officers for Early Voting in the Elections office for the Office of the City Clerk. Under the direction of the City Clerk, the position will prepare and work at early voting locations (see below for Early Voting schedule).  The position is responsible for performing considerable customer service, preparing voting locations for voters, counting ballots and checking voters in and out via the electronic poll book, ensuring that election laws are followed, recording election activities, and collecting materials at the end of the day.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Perform considerable customer service
  • Prepare voting locations ready for voters
  • Count ballots and check voters in and out via electronic poll book
  • Assist voters when necessary
  • Ensure that election laws are followed
  • Record election activities
  • Pack up materials at the end of the day
  • Perform related work as required

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic
  • Ability to operate an iPad
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies
  • Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift and handle materials and equipment up to forty (40) pounds
  • Ability to stand and or sit for prolonged periods of time

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a customer service role
  • Must be a US Citizen and a registered voter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference is given to Worcester residents
  • Experience with electronic devices
  • Experience with logging data and record keeping
  • Experience with working with diverse populations

SALARY: $18.00 hourly, part-time, temporary, non- benefited.
