Labor Service Jobs

Labor Service jobs are filled through the Labor Service registration where applicants are placed on waiting lists and ranked in order of registration date. Qualified veterans receive statutory preference and their names are placed at the top of the list in order of their registration number.

A list of Labor Service job titles with entrance requirements is on display in the Human Resources Department (Room 109).

Registration cards are mailed to all applicants indicating a registration number valid for five years, subject to all provisions of civil service laws and rules. During the five year period, applicants may add job titles to their registration number, for which they qualify, in writing. Applicants who wish to renew their registration for an additional five years may do so in writing within the six months period immediately following the expiration date. Failure to renew will result in removal from the Labor Service register. Applicants are notified in writing when their registration number is reached for certification. It is the responsibility of the applicant to update the Human Resources Office with a new address in writing.

Labor applications are continuously accepted whether or not there is a current position vacant. The staff of the Human Resources Department in City Hall is available to assist you. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Information is available regarding your registration and current ranking on the Labor Service eligible lists. Please do not hesitate to stop by our office at City Hall, Room 109, or to call us with questions at 508-799-1030.
