DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester is seeking a Human Resources Intern for the Administrative Division within the Department of Human Resources. Under the direction of the Director of Administration, the position will support the onboarding process for seasonal staff and assist with general administrative duties. The employee will assist with collecting, reviewing, and tracking new hire documents for processing, notify applicants and candidates of application and onboarding status, and assist the office with file management and storage of documents. 

This position will run from April through July. This position requires approximately 15 hours per week during the school year, ideally following a consistent weekly schedule. Once school is out for the summer, the role will transition to full-time hours.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Assist with the onboarding process for seasonal staff
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and compliant documents with federal and state law, and City policies
  • Contact candidates regarding missing paperwork or incomplete forms
  • Track the onboarding process and following up on items that require attention
  • Assist with data entry, file management, scanning and other clerical duties related to Human Resources functions
  • Assist with entering and performing administrative tasks related to employment applications

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under all circumstances
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to verify personal identification documents
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of online platforms and willingness to learn new data management systems
  • Regular onsite attendance is required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled or graduated from a College/University program
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six (6) months of experience in an office setting
  • Three (3) months of experience in Human Resources
  • Six (6) months of experience with data entry

SALARY RANGE: $16.00 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, temporary, non-benefitted
