The project site is at the Burncoat Senior High School (179 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606) which is an existing 144,388 square foot high school. This procurement requires the “Designer” to prepare a project Feasibility Study and provide a recommendation of a preferred alternate to advance to schematic design. The final design, bid, and construction administration phases of the potential project are contingent upon acceptance by the MSBA and the City of Worcester, subject not only to the subsequent approval by the MSBA but also continued funding authorized by the City of Worcester. The resulting contract between the City of Worcester and Designer may be amended to include continued Project Design Services through the schematic design, design development, construction documents, bid and award, construction administration and final closeout of the potential project.
The estimated construction budget for a potential project may range from $400 million to $525 million depending upon the solution that is agreed upon by the Owner and the MSBA and that is ultimately approved by the City of Worcester and the MSBA. The feasibility study is scheduled to start in May of 2026 and complete in October of 2027. A meeting and site visit for this project will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Burncoat Senior High School, 179 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
