Mulcahy Field is a 4-acre park located in the Grafton Hill neighborhood on Dorchester Street. It is just across Arthur Street from Banis Street Playlot. This park features a baseball field, a softball field, a playground, a basketball court and a batting cage.

History

Mulcahy Field was named after Capt. Michael J. Mulcahy, Military Veteran and physical education instructor for the Junior High School on Dorchester Street (now Worcester East Middle School).

A letter to the editor of the Telegram stated, "The teachers and pupils had the greatest respect for the late Captain Mulcahy, and it is only fitting that this field be called Mulcahy Field as the man meant much to the discipline of the school and every boy at the Junior High school benefitted by the athletic and military training that Capt. Mulcahy used in his classes at the Junior High gym."

Naming Mulcahy Field

On motion of Committeeman Enas W. Reidy, the committee voted to name the new athletic field at Junior High School Mulcahy Field in memory of the late Capt. Michael J. Mulcahy, who was physical director in that school at the time of his death.

Located within the Ingleside Avenue Historic District, Mulcahy Field offers multiple sporting options, including a basketball court, baseball diamond with batting cage and softball diamond.
