Worcester Invites Community Input on Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 4/3/2025 3:33 pm
WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (WHMPC) has developed a comprehensive Hazard Mitigation Plan Update that identifies and prioritizes strategies to mitigate the impacts of natural hazards and climate change on our community and is seeking public input on the plan.
WHMPC is developing the plan as a strategy to handle existing and future natural hazard threats and evolving challenges posed by climate change. Implementing this plan will significantly enhance the city’s resilience to hazards such as flooding, snowstorms, high winds, and extreme temperatures.
City officials and local stakeholders developed this plan with funding support from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. Federal Emergency Management Agency approval and municipal adoption of the Hazard Mitigation Plan allows the City to pursue pre- and post-disaster hazard mitigation grant opportunities.
Public engagement is essential for the Hazard Mitigation Plan. It is critical for the plan to reflect the diverse perspectives and priorities of our community members as we work to mitigate risks posed by natural hazards and climate change.
