FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 9/16/2025 1:31 pm
WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Division of Public Health (WDPH) has relaunched its Academic Health Collaborative, offering flexible, hands-on internships to undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates. The program runs in spring, summer, and fall, preparing future public health leaders for local workforce needs. Interns gain practical experience by contributing to project areas such as, but not limited to:
· Community health assessments
· Health campaigns
· Policy research
· Data analysis
· Program planning and evaluation
· Environmental health initiatives
· Emergency preparedness initiatives
“The Academic Health Collaborative is a reminder that leadership is not inherited—it is cultivated,” said WDPH Director Tamara Lundi. “By investing in the growth of future leaders while empowering the leaders of now, we plant seeds of innovation, equity, and hope that will shape the health of Worcester for generations to come.”
Partnering with an academic institution, the Department of Health & Human Services and WDPH provide an ideal practicum setting for students to benefit from teaching, research, and service.
Participants work closely with WDPH staff and partners, and receive mentorship tailored to their interests. Interns will benefit from learning new data analysis platforms, project presentations, hearing from guest speakers, and making professional connections.
Applicants can find detailed information and apply online via the Academic Health Collaborative website at Worcester Academic Health Collaborative | City of Worcester or by contacting Engle Torres at Torrese@worcesterma.gov.
