Worcester Police Deparment

On May 19th, 2025, at about 12:08 PM, Worcester Police officers, including CIT officers and a clinician, were dispatched to a Forestdale Rd address for a report of a check on the welfare.  Upon arrival, officers were told that a resident was making threats.  Upon arrival, officers determined that the resident bolted his door shut and that the threats possibly involved explosives. Officers took positions outside the residence and the resident, fifty-three-year-old Raymond Nydam, aimed what appeared to be a rifle at one of them while shouting threats. 

Officers took cover and called in the Crisis Negotiation Team.  Mr. Nydam shouted at officers and threw items out of the residence many times. He also armed himself with what appeared to be a samurai sword.  Officers attempted to negotiate for hours.  The SWAT team was also called in to assist.  After about nine-and-a-half hours, Mr. Nydam came out of the apartment and was placed under arrest.  He is charged Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
