WPD NRT Officers Arrest Man for Sawed-Off Shotgun

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/26/2025 10:00 am

On May 23rd, 2025, at about 9 PM, a lieutenant assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team was monitoring video in the area of Main South when he observed a male who appeared to be carrying a sawed-off shotgun in the area of Main and King St. The male, later identified as Martineau Lucien, appeared to be animated and yelling at another group.  The lieutenant monitoring the video asked the officers on the road to stop the male.

The officers approached, and a male immediately began running away from them.  Officers followed the male, who threw something into the driveway of a King St residence.  Officers detained the male and recovered the object, which was a sock with twenty-six bags of what appeared to be crack cocaine.  Officers placed the male, identified as twenty-four-years-old Devonte James of Claremont St, under arrest for Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute.

As officers were standing by with Mr. James, another male approached them.  At this time, the lieutenant arrived and recognized the male, identified as Martineau Lucien, thirty-two-years-old of Hammond St, as the male who had been carrying the sawed-off shotgun.  Officers detained Mr. Lucien and located the sawed-off shotgun behind a Main St address.

Sawed-off shotguns are illegal in Massachusetts and Mr. Lucien did not have a license to carry firearms.  He was placed under arrest and is charged with Possession of a Sawed Off Shotgun, Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Carrying a Shotgun on a Public Way.
