Worcester Police Department Announces Participation in Blue Envelope Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 4/15/2025 12:37 pm
The Worcester Police Department is proud announce its participation in the Blue Envelope Program. It is an effort to ease communication between our officers and people on the autism spectrum during motor vehicle stops.
The envelopes hold the motorist’s driver’s license and registration. They feature communication guidelines to assist officers in recognizing and adapting their approach when interacting with someone who has autism spectrum disorder. They also include important information for drivers. When a driver is stopped, they simply hand the blue envelope over to the officer.
“The Blue Envelope Program shows our commitment to inclusivity and understanding during all motor vehicle stops,” said WPD Chief Paul Saucier. “I am proud to bring this successful program to the city of Worcester.”
The Blue Envelope Program emerged from a partnership between the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Massachusetts State Police, Advocates of Autism for Massachusetts and The Arc of Massachusetts, along with input from people with autism and their families.
The blue envelopes are available in the lobby of the Worcester Police Department. Please ask for one at the window.
