FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 7/9/2026 10:24 am

At approximately 7:42 p.m. on July 8, 2026, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to Highland Street for a report of a hit-and-run crash with injury. The operator of an E-bike was hit by a vehicle, which left the scene. The E-bike operator, a forty-year-old male, was taken to the hospital. He suffered serious facial injuries but is expected to survive. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

An off-duty Massachusetts State Police Trooper witnessed the vehicle leaving the scene and followed it while providing updates to dispatch. Worcester Police officers pulled the vehicle over on Pleasant Street. Forty-nine-year-old Sebastiao Perpetuo was placed under arrest. An investigation showed that his driver’s license was suspended and he had an active warrant for his arrest. Perpetuo was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury, Operating a Motor Vehicle After Suspension and the warrant.

The Worcester Police Department would like to thank the State Police Trooper who helped our officers locate the suspect’s vehicle.
