WPD Officers Arrest Two Males on Several Gun Charges

At approximately 7:00 p.m. on April 28, 2026, Worcester Police officers observed two males. One of them appeared to be clutching his waistband. As the males walked down Houghton Street, they kept looking behind at the officer’s cruiser. 

Officers located them behind a shed with a third male. All three began to run. Officers caught up with eighteen-year-old Javiel Delgado of Worcester who threw a backpack he was carrying over a fence into a yard where a female and a child were playing. A firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device and a large capacity magazine were found inside of the backpack. Delgado is under the age of 21 and it is illegal for him to carry a firearm in Massachusetts. 

Assisting officers apprehended nineteen-year-old Salorin Batista of Fitchburg. Officers discovered the backpack Batista was seen handling. Two firearms were found inside, including one with a machine gun conversion device. Batista is also under the age of 21 and it is illegal for him to carry a firearm in Massachusetts.

The Crime Scene Unit responded and safely processed the firearms. Delgado is facing a number of charges including Possession of a Machine Gun, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm with a Feeding Device and Carrying a firearm without a license. Batista is also facing several charges including Carrying a Firearm without a License (x2), Possession of Large Capacity Firearm (x2), Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License (x2) and Possession of Machine Gun. The third male, a juvenile, was also arrested for pushing an officer as he attempted to flee.

One officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a shoulder injury and released.
