WPD’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit and Gang Unit Arrest Male with a Ghost Gun

On Monday April 20, 2026, members of the Worcester Police Department Gang Unit and Crime Gun Unit arrested an 18-year-old male in possession of a firearm.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., Detectives were proactively patrolling the area of Suffolk Street and Wall Street when they noticed two males walking in the area. One of the males was identified as Eliel Rios who was known to Detectives from a past firearm-related investigation and arrest.
As these males were walking, Detectives noticed that they exhibited characteristics of being armed. After observing the males' actions, Detectives approached the males and Rios attempted to run away. He was quickly detained and a loaded, large capacity, 9mm Polymer 80 unserialized firearm (ghost gun) was recovered from his person.
Rios, who is ineligible to obtain an LTC, was placed under arrest and charged with carrying a firearm second offense, carrying a loaded firearm without an LTC, possession of ammunition without a FID, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of an untraceable firearm and resisting arrest.
