WPD Officers Arrest Male on Firearm Charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3/20/2026 11:01 am

On March 20, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Worcester Police officers were dispatched to a local hospital for a report of a 44-year-old Worcester man suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. Hospital staff reported that the victim was in stable condition and had been dropped off by a vehicle that left the area immediately afterward.

Detectives responded to the hospital and attempted to speak with the victim who declined to provide additional information to investigators.

Operations officers located the vehicle a short time later parked near Hitchcock Street and Main Street. Officers spoke with the operator, 40-year-old Carlos Acevedo of Southbridge, who confirmed that he had transported the victim to the hospital. During the interaction, the operator informed officers that a firearm was located in the trunk of the vehicle. A handgun was recovered and Acevedo, who did not possess the required license to carry, was taken into custody on firearm possession charges.

This investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Worcester Police Department Detective Bureau at 508-799-8651 or use the WPD Tipline.
