FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 12/17/2025 11:48 am
WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Public Works (DPW), in collaboration with Worcester Public Schools (WPS), shared Wednesday the four winning names of its 2025 “Name-A-Snowplow” contest.
WPS students in grades K-12 submitted entries to name four trucks that plow main arterials in four different quadrants of the city. Those entries were then voted on by the public to determine the four truck names. Thirty unique entries from students were submitted and over 1,900 public ballots were cast.
The four winning snowplow truck names are:
- 2hr Delay Destroyer (Mrs. Brooke Arnold’s & Ms. Kelly Walls’ Grade 2 Class, Thorndyke Road School)
- Snowraider (Mrs. Radzik’s Grade 4 Class, Thorndyke Road School)
- Clearopathra (Ms. Heather Wassall’s Grades 9-12 Life Skills C Class, North High School)
- Ice-Zilla (Ms. Nicole Trudeau’s Grade 4 Class, Quinsigamond Elementary School)
“Congratulations to our Worcester Public School students on another great Name-A-Snowplow contest,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “Your imaginative and fun names were a treat to review and vote on. Four more of our snowplow trucks are now named and ready to handle anything this winter brings all the while showcasing our students’ creativity.”
“Our students brought so much creativity and enthusiasm to the second year of the Name-A-Snowplow contest,” said Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Brian E. Allen. “It’s become a fun and lighthearted way to add some joy to winter weather while giving students a chance to see their ideas come to life across the city. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
The winning classrooms will be recognized at the Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, City Council meeting, and they will have their photos taken with the trucks and receive DPW swag.
