DPW, Worcester Public Schools to Partner Again for “Name A Snowplow” Contest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 11/3/2025 3:27 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Public Works (DPW) and Worcester Public Schools (WPS) are partnering again for the “Name a Snowplow” contest to name four snowplow trucks for the 2025-2026 Winter season.

To celebrate the winter season and the creativity of our young scholars, WPS students in grades K-12 will submit entries to be voted on by the public to name trucks that plow main arterials in four different quadrants of the city.

“The Name a Snowplow Contest was such a hit last year we had to bring it back again to name four more trucks,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “This is a fun contest that highlights the creativity of our Worcester Public Schools students and the dedication of DPW members as they work hard to keep our streets clear and safe during the cold winter months.”

"If last year's contest was any indication, we are going to get some really creative names for city snow plows this year!" said WPS Superintendent Brian E. Allen. "Our students are highly creative, and we can't wait to see what they come up with."

The contest will result in four more of the municipality’s most visible snowplows getting their own names to join Scoop Dogg, Sleetwood Mac, William Scrapespeare, and Snow More Mr Ice Guy as they clear the snowy roads of Worcester.

Submissions will be accepted from Monday Nov. 3 through Wednesday Nov. 26, 2025, and it is open to all Worcester Public Schools classes in grades K-12. The public will then vote to determine four winners among all qualified entries, and the winning classrooms will receive a visit from and photo op with their named truck, DPW swag, and recognition at a future City Council meeting.
