Male Wanted by WPD Arrested with Loaded Illegal Gun Near Baseball Park
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 8/21/2025 12:10 pm
On Wednesday August 20, 2025, at approximately 4:52 PM, Gang Unit Detectives were on patrol in the Madison Street area when they observed a vehicle whose operator was wanted for pointing a firearm at someone during a recent call.
Officers confirmed this was the vehicle owned by suspect thirty-three-year-old Emmanuel Hernandez of Worcester. Detectives stopped the vehicle on Madison Street across from Polar Park. There has heavy pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic due to a game that was scheduled to start soon.
Hernandez was removed from the vehicle, where detectives attempted to place him under arrest for two active warrants. Once removed from the vehicle,
Hernandez began to resist in an attempt to flee. He was also seen reaching to his waist band with his right hand. Detectives, with the assistance of uniformed officers assigned to the Polar Park detail, were able to take Hernandez to the ground. As he was being taken to the ground, a firearm fell from Hernandez’s waistband. Once on the ground, Hernandez was placed in handcuffs.
It was later discovered that the serial number of the firearm was defaced, and Hernandez did not possess a license to carry a firearm. The Crime Scene Unit recovered the gun.
So far in 2025, the WPD's Crime Gun intelligence Unit has taken 30 crime guns off of the streets of Worcester. The Department as a whole has taken a total of 89 crime guns off of the streets in 2025.
Hernandez is charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number, Resisting Arrest and two warrants.
