Worcester to Host Zero Waste Master Plan Public Workshops

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester announced Monday upcoming public workshops for the municipality’s Zero Waste Master Plan, a bold and comprehensive roadmap to reduce waste and build a more sustainable future for the city.

Following the first set of public workshops in July, The Department of Sustainability and Resilience will be hosting the following workshops to solicit feedback on the plan:

  • Zero Waste Master Plan Workshop #2
    • In-person: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, 6:30-8 p.m., Worcester Public Library, Main Branch, 3 Salem Square

  • Zero Waste Master Plan Workshop #3
    • In-person: Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, 6:30-8 p.m., Worcester Public Library, Main Branch, 3 Salem Square

    • Online: Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, 06:30-8 p.m.

The Zero Waste Master Plan will include waste reduction target goals and recommendations focused on reducing, preventing, repairing, reusing, recycling and composting waste across Worcester. It will evaluate the effectiveness of the current Pay-As-You-Throw (Yellow Bag) and curbside recycling programs, and research ways to improve access to recycling and trash services for residents in large multifamily and commercial buildings. The plan will also explore options for food scraps composting, propose strategies to reduce illegal dumping and littering and assess services offered at the Millbury Street Drop-Off Center.
