City of Worcester, MA
Residents Advised to Exercise Caution During Icy Conditions March 5-6, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3/5/2026 4:31 pm
WORCESTER, Mass. – Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution due to icy conditions tonight, Thursday, March 5 through tomorrow morning, Friday, March 6.
A period of rain is expected to give way to freezing rain and ice overnight, with snow possibly mixed in. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is positioning all available personnel and equipment at 5 p.m. today in order to respond to road conditions. Pretreatment will not be possible due to the extended period of rain, as salt and brine would be washed away before any ice forms. DPW will begin treating the roads as soon as freezing begins.
Residents should avoid non-essential travel during freezing conditions, and any non-emergency issues should be reported to Worcester 311.
Worcester Public Schools, the Worcester Senior Center, and the Worcester Public Library’s Goddard, Roosevelt, and Tatnuck Magnet branches will be closed Friday, March 6.
