Providence St. to Close Monday for Safe Routes to School Event

WORCESTER, Mass. – Providence Street will be closed Monday June 10, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as the Department of Transportation and Mobility, along with Vernon Hill Elementary School, will be hosting a Vision Zero/Safe Routes to School Community Outreach Event.
The event will demonstrate how a little paint and a few simple materials can transform and improve safety for all who walk and wheel through the street.
The demonstration project includes:
- Painting of crosswalks and intersection by 3rd, 4th, 5th grade art classes 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Setting up temporary Curb Extensions at crosswalks and protected bike lane to demonstrate a safe school zone.
- Bike Skills Rodeo taught by MassBike from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Activities and Information booths on Vision Zero and Safe Routes to School from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Please note that Providence Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 :30 p.m. between Ames Street and Doane Street and the Worcester Regional Transit Authority Bus will be re-routed. Special parking restrictions will be in place on Providence Street in the vicinity of the school between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The project is in partnership with the Worcester Public Schools, Department of Public Works & Parks, Worcester Police Department, Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission, Worcester Regional Transit Authority, MassBIKE, and consultants Stantec and Speck Dempsey.
