Pothole Repair Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3/16/2026 12:53 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – As weather conditions improve, snow recedes, and pavement temperatures rise, the Department of Public Works is prioritizing pothole repairs throughout the city. Crews have been addressing potholes throughout the winter when conditions allowed, but the department is now fully focused on this work.

Through April 1, the department expects to deploy between three and ten pothole repair crews daily depending on weather and staffing. After April 1st, up to three crews will continue pothole repairs. A typical crew includes a driver and a laborer.

Crews work from established plow routes and pull locations from the citywide pothole list, repairing them based on the aging report so older reports are addressed first. Any pothole that presents an immediate safety concern due to size or depth is prioritized right away.

The department's goal is to identify and repair potholes as quickly as possible to protect motorists, reduce vehicle damage, and keep Worcester’s roads in good working condition.
