City Manager Batista Appoints Seema Dixit Commissioner of Health and Human Services

WORCESTER, Mass. – City Manager Eric D. Batista announced Friday the appointment of Seema Dixit as Commissioner of Health and Human Services, effective Feb. 17, 2026.
“Dixit brings a wealth of experience leading public health programs and operations,” said Batista. “She has proven success in managing multimillion-dollar programs, leading interagency partnerships, and advancing policy. I look forward to working together to advance the health and wellbeing of all Worcester residents.”
Dixit joins the City of Worcester with more than 25 years of experience in public health leadership roles. She most recently served as the Deputy Director for the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), where she began working in 2003.
“I am deeply honored to be appointed Commissioner of Health and Human Services for the City of Worcester,” said Dixit. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, community partners, and residents to strengthen public health, expand access to essential services, and build equitable health systems as deserved by the community.”
Prior to her role as RIDOH’s Deputy Director, Dixit served as the Department’s Community Mitigation & Enforcement Lead for its Covid-19 Response and Director of Environmental Health.
Dixit holds a Master of Science in International Health & Public Policy and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology & Health Administration from Tufts University. Prior to completing these degrees, she graduated from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, India where she earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Human Nutrition.
