City Continues Storm Cleanup, Officials Advise Caution

For Immediate Release: 2/23/2023 2:01 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City’s Department of Public Works & Parks continues to treat roadways for ice and snow, deploying over 50 vehicles to apply salt and sand. Due to ongoing precipitation, including freezing rain expected the evening of Thursday, Feb. 23, the City’s Declared Winter Parking Ban remains in effect until further notice. Municipal parking garages are free of charge until the ban is lifted.

Trash and recycling collection will continue as scheduled, although residents may experience delays. They are advised to contact Worcester 311 for assistance by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311.

City officials also advise motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution due to slippery conditions caused by the storm. They recommend driving slowly on icy roads and leaving additional time for travel; staying clear of vehicles treating the roads; and keeping sidewalks, driveways, and outdoor stairs and ramps clear of snow and ice.

Residents are reminded that they have up to 10 hours from the end of a winter storm to clear the sidewalks abutting their property of any snow and ice. Residents who are able are also asked to clear fire hydrants and catch basins in their neighborhoods. Snow and ice should not be put in the street.
