Artist Call: Design Public Art for Worcester’s New Public Waste Bins

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/12/2025 4:05 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester announced Monday a call for submissions from local artists to design art on the back of the “WooBins” – dual-stream public waste bins that are being placed throughout the city.

A total of 50 designs will be selected and displayed on the rear panels of Worcester’s new public waste bins on city sidewalks. Artists will be awarded $300 per design.

The theme of this public art submission is Environmental Stewardship, Livable Clean Neighborhoods, and Sustainability in Worcester. The designs should reflect Worcester’s diverse communities and culture, while also promoting a livable and sustainable city, aligned with the municipality’s strategic plan priorities and Green Worcester Plan goals

“The new waste bins will support our municipality’s mission to create clean spaces in our community, and the opportunity to add local art is an exciting way for us to transform our neighborhoods for a cleaner, brighter Worcester,” said Zero Waste Coordinator Miranda Hotham.

Priority will be given to artists or organizations living or working in Worcester. This project is open to established and emerging artists, arts organizations, residents (including youth with parental consent), neighborhood associations or community organizations.

Link to the project webpage with required art dimensions, submission requirements and the application can be found here. Submission deadline is Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 5 p.m.
