2024 Green Worcester Plan Annual Report Released

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 6/16/2025 2:34 pm

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester shared Monday its 2024 Green Worcester Plan Annual Report, which is a detailed analysis of the municipality’s progress on its goal of becoming one of the most climate-resilient and sustainable mid-sized cities in the nation by 2050.

Some of the most notable accomplishments include a reduction in citywide greenhouse gas emissions by 9.5% since 2009, the municipality moving into the next phase of the Energy Savings Performance Contract (an initiative that has already resulted in an 18.6% decrease in municipal energy usage over the past decade), completion of the first phase of the storm water master plan, hundreds of residents coming together to plant the municipality’s first Miyawaki Forests, and more than 700 residents receiving individualized assistance through the Smart Energy Advice program.

“The Green Worcester Plan remains our city’s roadmap to a sustainable and resilient future,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “At its core, the plan is grounded in collaboration and community engagement. With this annual report, we aim to share the progress we’ve made, reflect on the challenges we’ve faced, and reaffirm our collective vision for Worcester.”
