Joseph M. Petty, Mayor & Councilor-at-Large
Joseph M. Petty, Executive Secretary to the employee's retirement system of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency, is serving his fourteenth two-year term as Councilor-At-Large and his seventh term as Mayor of the City of Worcester. He is also the Chairman of the Worcester School Committee.
He is a graduate of Holy Name Central Catholic High School, Worcester. He received a BS in Business Administration from Nichols College, Dudley, and a law degree from New England School of Law, Boston.
Mayor Petty believes providing reliable police and fire services and exercising budgetary prudence at City Hall are issues of high priority. He promotes improving our infrastructure, especially in our neighborhoods.
He is married to Gayle (née Perrone) and is the father of two sons, Andrew and Joseph, and one daughter, Nicole.
Navigate, Engage, Connect, Transform (NECT), the City of Worcester Civics Academy aims to provide insight into the operations of the City of Worcester from a multi-departmental lens, allowing residents to feel empowered with the knowledge gained from the experience. We hope that this opportunity will offer a safe venue for respectful discussion. The City of Worcester Civics Academy will be a 5-week in-person course starting March 5th that will be taking place biweekly from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. with dinner included. Seats are limited and open to Worcester residents only, so a commitment to attend will be required.
