Janice R. Weekes, Director, Workforce Central Career Centers
The Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board (CMWIB) is responsible for guiding the local workforce development system to ensure it meets the needs of our local employers. As the locally designated Workforce Investment Board for Worcester and the 37 surrounding communities in Southern Worcester County that make up the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment region, the CMWIB sets policies and provides oversight for a variety of local, state, and federal workforce development initiatives including youth employment and training programs and the three Workforce Central Career Centers. The CMWIB is made up of volunteer members representing area employers, education and training institutions, community-based organizations, organized labor and partnering state agencies. By statute, a majority of the CMWIB's members must be from the business community. CMWIB staff also conduct labor market studies to identify trends and work through the board to develop innovative partnerships and strategies to address the workforce needs of our region.
