DEMENTIA FRIENDLY COORDINATOR
WORCESTER SENIOR CENTER
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for the position of Dementia Friendly Coordinator (Staff Assistant I) for The Worcester Senior Center within the Division of Health and Human Services. The Dementia Friendly Coordinator will support and expand upon the Worcester Senior Center’s efforts to provide programs and services responsive to the needs of seniors living with dementia, their caregivers and family. Under the direction of the Operations Director, the position will facilitate the Dementia Friendly Worcester meetings and initiatives, assist with the care-giver respite Time to Care program and Memory Café, as well as training and outreach.

This is a Grant-funded position funded through 6/30/24 with potential for continuation and expansion.
15 hours/week; temporary non-benefited

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and experience with coordinating committees, programs, and events
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) & ability to manage a website or learn to do so
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to complete tasks timely and in a quality manner
  • Interest and sensitivity toward working with seniors living with dementia and people of all backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and establish/maintain excellent working relationships as part of a team

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Experience working with diverse and/or older populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Social Media Channels
  • Ability to earn Dementia Friendly certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years of experience in the Human Services field
  • Two (2) years of experience working with seniors living with dementia and/or professionals from fields such as human services, health, safety, business, and education.
  • One (1) year of experience with coordinating committees, programs, and events
  • One (1) year of experience with creating marketing or outreach materials

STARTING SALARY: $24.90 hourly, part-time, 15 hours/week.
