Description

The City of Worcester Division of Public Health is seeking four (4) individuals for the position of Tobacco Compliance Intern to work for the Division of Public Heath in its Tobacco Control Program. Under the direct supervision of the Tobacco Coordinator, the position will focus on reducing youth access to tobacco products by conducting compliance inspections.  This will include visiting establishments with the Tobacco Inspector and attempting to purchase tobacco products for enforcement and compliance with state and local regulations. Applicants must have strong time management skills, communication skills, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Provide tobacco prevention through enforcement of current local policies
  • Provide technical assistance to local boards of health in writing new policies
  • Address youth access and the effects of environmental tobacco smoke
  • Educate the community around current and emerging tobacco products
  • Conduct annual compliance checks with the Tobacco Coordinator at 100% of establishments that sell tobacco products (including vaping products) across 4 communities: Grafton, Shrewsbury, West Boylston, and Worcester
  • Ability to work in the community with the tobacco coordinator visiting retailers as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be between the age of 16 and 20 years of age
  • Professional and reliable
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Ability to track and report on tasks completed
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to conceptualize and organize projects into manageable tasks
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required

SALARY: $15.00 hourly, part-time, non-benefitted.
