CHIEF OF REGIONAL HEALTH
DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH 
CITY OF WORCESTER

The Chief of Regional Health is the Environmental Health expert for the Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance and is the main point of contact for all Regional Public Health in the municipalities that contract with Worcester for Public Health Services (currently Grafton, Shrewsbury, Millbury, and West Boylston). The employee will work with Regional Boards of Health, Town managers, public health stakeholders, and other WDPH Chiefs to deliver high-quality public health services to town residents.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert understanding of Mass General Law (MGL) and Code of Massachusetts Regulations (CMR) related to environmental health and public health sanitation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inspection and enforcement best practices
  • Familiarity with housing court processes and procedures
  • Experience with inspectional software tools
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse multicultural community, local organizations, and staff
  • Ability to present policy considerations to local leaders, elected officials, and staff
  • Ability to track and maintain a program budget
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, or relevant field
  • Five years of experience in Public Health or Environmental Health administration OR,

     An equivalent combination of education & experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required duties of the position will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements.

  • MA Registered Sanitarian or NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist
  • Familiarity with Health Equity and Racial Justice frameworks
  • Valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Public Health, Environmental Health, or relevant field
  • Ten years of experience in Environmental Health administration
  • Five years of supervisory experience

SALARY: $78,873 - $92,919 annually, full-time, excellent benefits package.
