WPD Officers, MSP and US Marshals Arrest Male for Serious Warrants

For Immediate Release: 8/11/2023 7:53 pm

On August 11th 2023 at about 9:52 AM, personnel from the Worcester Police Detective Bureau, Massachusetts State Police, and United States Marshalls went to a Dorchester St address to attempt to serve a warrant. Thirty-two-year-old Jarrell Grayson had arrest warrants for charges including Armed Robbery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (knife), Kidnapping, and Strangulation. When they approached the address, a WPD detective observed Mr. Grayson on the roof. When the detective called out to him, Mr. Grayson climbed into a third-floor window.

Officers knocked on the door of the third floor apartment and explained to residents that they believed Mr. Grayson was in the apartment. They showed residents a copy of the arrest warrant for Mr. Grayson. The residents denied that Mr. Grayson was in the apartment, did not grant consent for the officers to enter, and demanded to see a search warrant before letting anyone inside. Officers maintained a perimeter around the residence while a detective composed an application for a search warrant for the third floor apartment. The Crisis Negotiation Team was activated and attempted to make contact with Mr. Grayson. The warrant application was granted, and the detective returned it to the scene. At this point, approximately four hours had passed since the start of the incident.

Officers told the residents that they had a search warrant, and attempted to show it to them. The residents continued to refuse to open the door. The WPD SWAT team forced entry into the apartment, and eventually located Mr. Grayson hiding in an attic crawl space that was only accessible through a tile in the bathroom. He was placed under arrest for his two outstanding warrants.

When the SWAT team initially entered the apartment, twenty-nine-year-old male resident T’Marie Johnson went into a room with a barking dog and refused to exit. He continued to refuse to comply with officers, and was placed under arrest for Accessory after the Fact, Resisting Arrest and Interfering with a Police Officer.
