On April 15, 2024 at approximately 9:50pm, detectives assigned to the Worcester Police’s new Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were investigating a ShotSpotter activation when they observed a vehicle on Channing Street with dark window tints and a tinted plate cover. As detectives pulled the vehicle over, its license plate became legible and was recognized from a BOLO put out after a ShotSpotter activation on March 19, 2024.
Prior to exiting their vehicle, detectives noticed the passenger reaching towards the backseat. Detectives approached the vehicle and asked the operator and the passenger to exit the vehicle. Passenger nineteen-year-old Suil Rosario and operator nineteen-year-old Giancarlos Guzman were detained as detectives investigated. Detectives discovered a firearm inside of the vehicle. Both men were unable to provide a license to carry or a driver’s license and were arrested. Crime Scene Investigators later determined the firearm was a Glock 42 capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Suil Rosario is charged with Unlawful Carry of a Firearm, Unlawful Carry of a Firearm Loaded, Possession of ammunition without FID and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm. Giancarlos Guzman is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License.
The Worcester Police Department has established The Crime Gun Intelligence Unit in response to recent gun violence in the city. The CGIU is dedicated to curbing gun violence through the production of precise, timely, and actionable intelligence.
