Weather Alert: Heavy Rains Expected in Worcester and Region

POWER-OUTAGE-SAFETY-TIPS.jpg For Immediate Release: 10/25/2021 3:22 pm

Due to predicted heavy rainfall over the course of this week and in an effort to help mitigate any potential street flooding, The City of Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks requests that residents clear leaves and debris away from catch basins and/or storm drains in front of, or near their property.

The Department of Public Works and Parks advises motorists and pedestrians to seek alternate routes if they encounter flooded roadways. Attempting to traverse flooded roadways can be hazardous, lead to serious injury, and may result in the loss of personal property such as a flooded vehicle.

Follow these tips to learn how to be safe during a flood.

  • Do not walk through flowing water
  • Do not drive through a flooded area
  • Stay away from power lines and electrical wires
  • Have your electricity turned off by the Power Company
  • Look out for small wild animals
  • Look before you step
  • Be alert for gas leaks
  • Carbon monoxide exhaust kills
  • Clean everything that got wet
