The mission of the Parks, Recreation & Cemetery Division is to provide operations, programs and maintenance relative to parks, recreation, cemetery, forestry and building maintenance.
Specifically, this office is responsible for the following:
Coordination and support for special events.
Maintenance and management of 160+ acres of Hope Cemetery including, but not limited to interment, monumentation and grounds maintenance.
Maintenance and management of the City's sixty parks and playgrounds and four City beaches.
Maintenance and management of the City's urban forest through scopes such as trimming, clean up of storm damage, condemned tree removals, contracted forestry services and tree plantings.
Maintenance and repairs to public buildings (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
Management of a comprehensive summer recreation program.
Physical set-up for all City elections.
The Parks, Recreation & Cemetery Division also provides staff and technical support to the Parks and Recreation Commission, Hope Cemetery Commission, GAR Memorial Hall and Memorial Auditorium Board of Trustees.
