(SITE COORDINATOR – ACADEMIC YEAR)
DIVISION OF YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

PENDING FUNDING APPROVAL

The Recreation Worcester Literacy Coach will collaborate with Youth Workers and Assistant Recreation Leads to design and develop curriculum for Recreation Worcester Youth Programming. Responsibilities for this position include infusing literacy and best practices into program curriculum. This position is also responsible for training and coaching Youth Worker staff to implement literacy techniques through youth programming, implementing and facilitating literacy curriculum with youth during programing, and engaging with youth in small groups and one-on-one support. This position will work with virtual and in-person programming staff.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills; will have a strong understanding of best practices related to literacy youth engagement and learning; will have experience in developing and implementing literacy-focused youth programming; and will have experience in engaging Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and English as a Second Language (ESL) student in literacy activities. The qualified candidate will have the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations, organizations, and interests; ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs; ability to build relationships and networking skills with students, colleagues, and community members; ability to provide and receive constructive feedback; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to multitask.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in developing literacy curriculum and lesson planning
  • One (1) year of experience facilitating activities and programming
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to pass CORI/SORI check
  • Must have an updated physical exam in the past 12 months
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • Experience facilitating activities and programming
STARTING SALARY: $35.00 per hour, part-time, temporary, non-benefitted
