CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
OFFICE OF THE TREASURER & COLLECTOR OF TAXES
CITY OF WORCESTER

The Office of the Treasurer and Collector of Taxes seeks qualified candidates for the role of Customer Service Representative. The Customer Service Representative is responsible for supporting the Parking Administration division by handling inquiries from the public; responding to citizen complaints, including the explanation of departmental policies and regulations to other city employees and the general public; providing information related to parking tickets and other fines issued by the city. This position is also responsible for overseeing functions of the City Hall mailroom, including sorting and preparing all incoming/outgoing & interoffice mail, and maintaining and managing all mailroom supplies, including the operation of two automated mailing machines and postage meter.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Exemplary customer service skills in an office setting;
  • Excellent telephone skills as well as telephone etiquette;
  • Proficiency with personal computers, experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and e-mail software, and demonstrated ability to learn new software programs;
  • Ability to operate office and mailing equipment;
  • Ability to lift bundles of mail
  • Ability to prioritize, be organized and multi-task;
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting;
  • Ability to remain professional under all circumstances;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Two (2) years of customer service experience in an office setting; OR,
    • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Prior work experience in a municipal office environment.

SALARY RANGE: $14.90 - $19.52 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
