City to Launch 2016 Community Health Improvement Plan

For Immediate Release: 6/17/2016 10:57 am

Worcester, MA (June 17, 2016) - City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. announced today that the Worcester Division of Public Health and the Coalition for a Healthy Greater Worcester, in partnership with UMass Memorial and Fallon, will host a public release of the 2016 Greater Worcester Community Health Improvement Plan.

WHAT: CHIP Public Release Presentation
DATE: Thursday, June 23, 2016
TIME: 4:30 PM
PLACE: The White Room at Crompton Collective - 138 Green Street, Worcester

The CHIP was created by a wide array of community partners, residents, key stakeholders and the medical community and will serve as a vehicle to make the Worcester the healthiest city and the healthiest region by 2020, a slogan coined by Michael P. Hirsh, MD, Medical Director for the City of Worcester, at the release of the first CHIP in 2012.

"The CHIP is a movement created by the community for the community," said City Manager Augustus. "It encompasses all aspects of our public health, and I hope everyone in our region takes the opportunity to CHIP IN and participate to help Worcester become the healthiest city by 2020."

The 2016 CHIP was born from a 2015 intensive Community Health Assessment, which included thousands of hours of data culling, key informant interviews, focus groups and surveys across the communities that comprise the Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance, a regional health district of which the City of Worcester's Division of Public Health leads. Municipalities included in the CMRPHA include Millbury, Leicester, West Boylston, Shrewsbury, Grafton and Holden.

"I am proud of and appreciate the thousands of hours that the Division of Public Health and our community partners have put into the CHIP," said Matilde "Mattie" Castiel, MD, Commissioner of Health & Human Services. "This is a lofty agenda, but the support and interest we have received from the community and our regional partners to move this forward have been overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic."

More details will be released at the presentation, and the full report will be available at worcesterma.gov on the day of the release.
