WPD Officer Arrests Female for Car Break, Vandalism

For Immediate Release: 4/1/2024 9:21 am

On March 30th 2024, a Worcester Police officer was working a paid detail at McDonald’s on Shrewsbury St. At about 6:45 PM, a female, identified as twenty-nine-year-old Carmen Ortiz of Channing St, walked up to a customer at the restaurant and asked him for money. The customer had never seen Ms. Ortiz before and said no, and Ms. Ortiz began to swear at him as she walked out of the restaurant.

The customer walked out of the restaurant and saw the female inside his parked vehicle going through the glove box. He ran outside to confront her, and the officer on duty noticed the commotion and responded.

The male customer said that he had a wallet with $300 in the vehicle, and the money was missing. The officer spoke to Ms. Ortiz, who denied taking the money. The officer noticed that she was making a fist with one hand and that paper money was inside her hand. The officer pointed this out, and Ms. Ortiz dropped the money and ran away.

The customer recovered his $300 and did not want to press charges. While he was walking to his car, Ms. Ortiz ran up to his car and started kicking it, leaving a visible dent. She was placed under arrest and is charged with Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, Vandalism, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace.
