City of Worcester mourns passing of Department of Public Works & Parks Commissioner Paul J. Moosey

For Immediate Release: 10/16/2020 5:16 pm

The City of Worcester has learned of the passing of Paul J. Moosey, Commissioner of Public Works & Parks. Below are statements from Mayor Joseph M. Petty and City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. on the loss of their friend and colleague.

"I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Moosey, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works," Mayor Petty said. "Commissioner Moosey was first hired by the City of Worcester in 1984 and became Commissioner of Public Works in 2014. Paul served numerous mayors and city managers over the course of his tenure and oversaw numerous construction projects including Nelson Place School, the new South High Community School, and the City Square redevelopment project. He also played an instrumental role in the building of Polar Park. I have known Paul for over 20 years and he was a true public servant. I ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

“I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of Paul Moosey – his wife Cindi and three siblings – in their time of mourning," City Manager Augustus said. "His passing is heartbreaking to me both personally and professionally. It is a tremendous loss for the City, which he served faithfully for 36 years. I am honored to have worked with Paul the past seven years in his role as Commissioner of Public Works, and I will miss him deeply as both a friend and colleague, as will his extended family in the Department of Public Works & Parks.”
