Brush Fire Advisory Conditions

For Immediate Release: 3/19/2012 3:38 pm

Worcester, MA (March 19, 2012) - Due to the unusually mild winter weather, these extremely dry conditions have created a potentially dangerous situation where there is an excess of readily ignited forest products available as fuel for brush and vegetation fires. The Worcester Fire Department advises property owners who border with wooded or overgrown areas to please clear those areas in the vicinity of their homes of combustible vegetation. The combustibles should be removed up to 30-50 feet away from any structure.

Every year, the Fire Department fights numerous brush fires which have been known to spread to adjourning structures if the proper maintenance of brush in the area is not maintained. High winds and dry conditions can create tremendously fast moving fire conditions that can quickly spread across many acres. Brush piles should be discarded at the proper DPW drop-off areas and not left in the path of a potential fire or in the city streets. Protect your homes and property by removing the fuel from the area!

This should also serve to remind citizens that outside burning of brush or any combustible material is not allowed in the City of Worcester.
