Transmitting an informational communication relative to a status update of the City of Worcester's current and projected tree planting funding, resources, and priorities. # 8.32A CM March 19, 2024

Chairperson Councilor Pacillo read the item and recognized the Chief Sustainability Officer and the Assistant Commissioner of Public Works and Parks, who provided an overview of the item.

Chairperson Councilor Pacillo discussed communications the city has had with property owners concerning trees planting plans and whether trees could be requested by residents for planting with the Assistant Commissioner of Public Works and Parks.

Chairperson Councilor Pacillo recognized Councilor Toomey, who discussed the time required for trees to grow to the standard size for planting, the feasibility of working with the public schools to create a tree nursery program in the city, how neighborhood groups can assist with trees planting efforts and the timeline concerning trees planting in the spring and summer seasons with the Assistant Commissioner of Public Works and Parks and the Chief Sustainability Officer.

Chairperson Councilor Pacillo moved to recommend the item be filed.
