WPD Officers Respond to Call for Person Pointing a Gun at People

For Immediate Release: 4/14/2022 8:03 pm

On April 14th 2022 at about 1:05 PM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Sherman St for a report of a male walking around with rifle and pointing it people. Officers arrived, checked the area, and did not initially find anyone. They received additional information that the male had been pointing an AR-15 style rifle and pointing it into windows.

Officers located a male walking around with what appeared to be a rifle near the intersection of Pitt and Cambridge St, and the man was identified by witnesses as the one who was pointing his firearm at people and residences. Officers made contact with the man, identified as Javier Cuevas-Figueroa, thirty-years-old of Pitt St, and ordered him to drop the weapon. Mr. Cuevas-Figueroa turned toward the officers while still holding the rifle. The officers told him to drop the weapon again, and he did. Officers moved in and placed him in handcuffs.

A search incident to arrest revealed shotgun shells on the person of Mr. Cuevas-Figueroa, who does not have a license to carry firearms or an FID card. Upon closer examination, the rifle was a realistic AR-15 replica airgun. Mr. Cuevas-Figueroa is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (airsoft rifle) and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. He will be arraigned in court.
