On March 23rd 2021, officers from the Neighborhood Response Team were on patrol in the area of Union Station. After a series of complaints about individuals on motorized bicycles driving recklessly, officers were focused on enforcing the laws related to unsafe operation. At about 5:15 PM, officers observed two groups of motorized dirt bike riders driving extremely recklessly near Washington Square. The riders were going through red lights at full speed, swerving in and out of traffic, and they caused other vehicles to slam on the brakes and make sudden turns to avoid crashes.
Officers followed the dirt bike riders to Green Hill Park, where some of the riders got off their bikes. Officers approached the group, at which some of the riders jumped on their bikes and attempted to flee. One of the riders struck an officer with the bike as he rode away. Four of the riders attempted to flee on foot. Officer caught up to one of the males, identified as De’Marion Sarfo, eighteen-years-old, and detained him. Officers recovered four of the dirt bikes, and determined that the bike Mr. Sarfo was riding was reported stolen in Webster. Another bike had been stolen during a Worcester house break. Mr. Sarfo was placed under arrest and charged with Receiving Stolen Property over $1200, Disorderly Conduct, Operating a Recreational Vehicle on a Public Way, Unregistered Recreational Vehicle, and Operating a Recreational Vehicle Recklessly. He will be arraigned in court.
