On July 6th 2021 at about 7:55 PM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Vernon and View St for a report of a ShotSpotter activation. As officers were on the way to the scene, they received information that a passenger in a Jeep was shooting at individuals on two mopeds, one of whom was firing back at the Jeep.
An officer observed two individuals on one moped traveling at a high rate of speed on Vernon St. The officer broadcast the description of the two individuals. An officer observed two individuals who matched the description given over the radio on Green St. The officer walked toward the two males to speak with them, and the two males fled on foot. One of the males removed a fanny pack from around his neck, and threw it over a fence on Green St.
Both males were apprehended after a foot pursuit. They both turned out to be fifteen-year-old males. Officers located the area where the fanny pack was thrown and discovered a loaded handgun. The second male also had a fanny pack, and officers discovered a loaded magazine. Both males were placed under arrest.
One male is charged with Unlawful Carry of a Firearm, Unlawful Carry of a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Ammunition without an FID Card, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building. The second male is charged with Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. They were both also given motor vehicle citations. They will be arraigned in court, and the investigation continues.
