Traffic Advisory for Festival of Lights

For Immediate Release: 12/2/2021 12:13 pm

The Worcester Police Department announced street closures parking restrictions and anticipated traffic delays on Friday, December 3, 2021 due to the Festival of Lights celebration. The department is anticipating heavy pedestrian crowds associated with this event, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling in the area surrounding downtown.


The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, December 3rd from 2 PM – 9PM:

  • Front Street from Main Street to Church Street
  • Franklin Street from Main Street to Church Street
  • Church Street from Front Street to Franklin Street
  • A portion of Main Street will be briefly impacted in front of City Hall 


With thousands expected to attend, early arrival is recommended. There is plenty of affordable parking available within walking distance of the Worcester Common Oval, including the Worcester Common Garage at 2 Eaton Place, Mercantile Center Parking Garage, Federal Plaza Parking Garage and the Pearl-Elm Parking Garage.


Again, the Worcester Police Department is advising drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be considerate of others traveling on local streets in the areas surrounding the event
