On Monday, September 27, 2021 at approximately 7:30 PM an officer assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team entered the Walgreens parking lot located at 220 Grafton Street. The officer parked next to a grey Nissan Sentra. When the officer exited his cruiser he observed the operator of the Nissan reach into a backpack on the passenger seat. Once the male saw the officer’s police badge he reacted by pulling his hand out of the bag and looking straight ahead.
While in the store, the officer ran a check of the registration and found that it did not match the car. The vehicle left the Walgreens parking lot and entered the Dunkin Donuts parking. The vehicle then left that location without using a turn signal. The operator then turned onto Waverly Street without stopping at the red light. The officer then activated his blue emergency lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop. A second officer also assisted with the stop.
The officers observed an open container of marijuana in plain view. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Javier Aguilar, 20 of 21 Branch Street, Worcester. Mr. Aguilar exited the vehicle on his own and told police they could search the car. Officers then asked the passenger to exit the vehicle. Mr. Aguilar’s backpack was open and on the back seat. The officer observed that there was a handgun inside. The gun was loaded and there was another loaded magazine located inside the backpack.
Mr. Aguilar was charged with Improperly Storing a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and two counts of Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.
