On March 29, 2021 at approximately 9:38 PM Worcester police officers were dispatched to 2 Shawmut Street for a report of a motor vehicle fire.
The Worcester Fire Department was also on scene and had put the fire out prior to police arrival. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and had significant damage to the front end.
During the investigation, officers gathered information on the suspect. Officers learned that the male suspect, later identified as Alberto Torres-Pinales, tried to prevent firefighters from putting out the fire. Mr. Torres-Pinales attempted to pull the hose from firefighters and continued to yell at them. He entered a white Cherokee Jeep and positioned his vehicle behind the fire hose. He was instructed not to leave the scene. However, he proceeded to drive over the fire hose and took off recklessly down Shawmut Street.
He was last seen traveling on Merrick Street. Police were able to locate Mr. Torres-Pinales at his apartment.
Alberto Torres-Pinales, 40, of 21 Jefferson Street, Worcester was charged with burning a motor vehicle, interfering with a Firefighter and driving over a fire hose without consent of the Fire Department.
