AQUATIC DIRECTOR (SEASONAL)
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS
CITY OF WORCESTER


The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks is seeking to fill the Aquatic Director position. This position performs professional duties in the supervision of operations for the aquatic pool and beaches through planning, coordination, scheduling, and evaluating a variety of programs specific to aquatics, while maintaining a safe physical environment at the City’s pool and beaches. The position will supervise all seasonal lifeguards, water safety instructors, gate keepers, maintenance aids, volunteers, and oversee swim programs. Extensive knowledge of aquatic specific functions will be required, including safety, maintenance, supervision, and overall understanding of federal, state, and local requirements in aquatic operations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic management and administrative skills.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • The willingness to perform manual labor and work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds
  • Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first-aid
  • Ability to perform daily routine maintenance of recreation equipment, cleaning of restrooms, and emptying trash/removing waste
  • Ability to pass CORI/SORI

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Lifeguard
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Head Guard at a facility
  • Certification in American Red Cross, YMCA Lifeguard Training or equivalent
  • Certification in American Red Cross First Aid or equivalent
  • Certification in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operation (CPO)
  • Certificate in American Red Cross Lifeguard Management or equivalent
  • Certification as an American Red Cross-WSI or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with youth programs
  • Familiarity with American Red Cross Aquatic Programs

SALARY: $21.00 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted
